이희경 Heekyung Lee

음악학자 이희경은 20세기와 21세기 음악의 다양한 흐름과 그 속에서 아시아와 한국 현대음악이 어떻게 전개되어 왔는지 오랫동안 천착해 온 연구자다. 서울대학교에서 음악이론을 공부하고 동 대학원에서 음악학 석사를 마쳤으며, 베를린 예술대학에서 리게티 연구로 박사학위를 받았다. 현재 한국예술종합학교 예술교양학부와 음악원, 서울대학교 음악대학에서 가르치며, 한국 창작음악의 현재를 다루는 반년간 비평지 『오늘의 작곡가 오늘의 작품』 편집위원장으로도 활동 중이다. 한국문화예술위원회 6기 위원을 역임했다.

지은 책으로 『리게티, 횡단의 음악』, 『작곡가 강석희와의 대화』, 『메트로폴리스의 소리들. 빈ㆍ파리ㆍ베를린ㆍ뉴욕, 20세기 대도시를 가로지르는 현대음악의 풍경』, 엮은 책으로 『진은숙과의 대화. 우주의 끝에 다다르려는 작곡가의 온평생』, 『현대음악의 즐거움. 서울시향 ‘아르스 노바’ 10년의 기록』, 옮긴 책으로 『진은숙, 미래의 악보를 그리다』, 『그라우트 서양 음악사 7판』(공역) 등이 있고, 현대음악의 다양한 주제들로 50여 편의 논문을 썼다. 2006년부터 2018년까지 서울시향 ‘아르스 노바’ 시리즈의 프로그램 책자에 실린 독일어 해설을 한국어로 옮겼고, 독일 음악사전(MGG)과 현대음악 사전(Lexikon Neue Musik)에 한국 작곡가들과 한국 현대음악 항목을 집필하기도 했다.

Heekyung Lee is a lecturer at Korea National University of Arts and Seoul National University. She received her B.M. and M.M. in Musicology from Seoul National University and a Ph.D. from the Berlin University of Arts with the dissertation on the new concept of form in György Ligeti’s works. 

Her major publications include Ligeti: Music of the Transversal, Conversations with the Composer Sukhi Kang, Unsuk Chin. In the Mirror of Time (Korean trans. from German) and Sounds of the Metropoles: New Music Scenes in the Twentieth Century. She has also written articles on various issues in contemporary music; her recent research focuses on the history of Korean contemporary music from 1953 to the present in a socio-cultural context. 

Since 2016, Lee has been Editor-in-Chief of the semiannual journal Korean Contemporary Composers and Compositions, and served as a member of Arts Council Korea from 2019 to 2021.
